Local Academy Barcelona: When editing is learned with your hands (and tight graphics)

Barcelona gave us sun, tapas and plenty of theory… but the real action happened with a screwdriver. Together with our partner beMatrix, we hosted Local Academy at Base3, which serves as beMatrix’s key, newly expanded pick-up point. A full day to build a real stand, learn assembly tricks, and explore printing and finishing capabilities when design, production and structure work side by side.

What we did at Base3

• Showcased end-to-end production: prepress, large-format digital printing, cutting, textile sewing and finishing.
• Workshop on perfect textile tensioning for beMatrix frames, fast graphic swaps and hassle-free spare-parts management.
• On-site testing: attendees assembled, came over to Base3, we fine-tuned dimensions, produced samples and they went back to test the stand the very same day.
• Logistics & transport tips to reach the show with no surprises (packing, labeling and assembly checklists).

The beMatrix hub in Barcelona operates as a one-stop shop: rent frames, order prints from Base3, pick up materials and test your stand before heading to the venue. The result: less risk, more speed and a first-time-right assembly.

Who joined
Event professionals, stand builders, agencies and print teams from Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid and Portugal. Two sessions (morning and afternoon), questions galore, and the participation of Luc Lutters (beMatrix Belgium), adding an international touch and answering every technical query.

We wrapped up with tapas (because this is Barcelona), but here’s what matters: hands-on training, real processes and an optimized workflow between structure and print.
